We had our first Board of Directors meeting for the 2013-2014 fiscal year last week.   Our Board Chair, Rochelle Rivas, kicked off the meeting in a way reminiscent of starting the first day of school. Our ice-breaker was to answer:

1. What we did over Summer break

2. Why are we all here

I’ll spare the details on the summer vacations (many worked a lot!), but what stood out was the common love for Classroom’s Central’s mission: to equip students living in poverty to effectively learn by collecting and distributing free school supplies. In addition, here a just a few reasons why these local executives joined the Classroom Central board:

…..the desire for kids to live out their dreams

…..personal passion in the mission, with relatives who are teachers

…..the belief that education is the best way to break the cycle of poverty

…..the appreciation that they were fortunate enough to able to go school shopping to get things they needed, and the desire that every student would have the supplies they need

…..the disappointment in the disparity between the region’s rich and poor and motivation to help

…..the realization that it is all about the future, and with our kids being our future,  we need to do all we can to enable them

….the gratitude that education gave them a chance to succeed and the commitment to give others a chance to achieve

Thanks to the below individuals for their time and energy in supporting Classroom Central’s mission.  New officers and members have links to their Charlotte Business Journal People On The Move announcements.
