At Classroom Central, we have the most amazing volunteer support system. Since we just have a staff of eleven, we rely on our volunteers to help us achieve our mission. Our volunteer spotlights are a way of showcasing those individuals and groups. This month, we spotlight Stephanie Cohan.
Length of time as a volunteer:
Almost two years
Why you volunteer at Classroom Central:
I have always been interested in serving my community. I believe what Classroom Central does is so important. Every child deserves an equal opportunity at education. Without basic school supplies, that is not possible. And being a former teacher, I know firsthand about paying for supplies out of my own pocket. The staff and other volunteers are a pleasure to work with. It feels like one big happy family.
What school supply excites you the most to see come through the doors?
Oddly enough, I get excited to see the basics like pencils, colored pencils, markers and crayons. Students go through a ton of those and always need more. Plus, those are the tools needed for creativity.
What you do when you are not volunteering at Classroom Central?
I am a homemaker and mom to a new puppy. In my spare time I enjoy reading, cooking and outdoor activities such as hiking, biking and camping. I also take French lessons and try to travel as much as possible.
