At Classroom Central, we have the most amazing volunteer support system. Since we just have a staff of eleven, we rely on our volunteers to help us achieve our mission. Our volunteer spotlights are a way of showcasing those individuals and groups.
This month, we spotlight Jo Anne and Bob Caruso. Whether they volunteer together or separately, they always bring a genuine enthusiasm to their work! We really enjoy having them on our team.
Name: Jo Anne Caruso
Length of time as a volunteer: About 4 years.
Why you volunteer at Classroom Central: As a retired school librarian I can appreciate the need teachers and students have for the supplies and support Classroom Central provides. Classroom Central is very well run and appreciates those who volunteer for them.
What school supply excites you the most to see come through the doors? Of course I prefer seeing the books coming in the most. It is great to have so many choices for the teachers to select.
What do you do when you are not volunteering at Classroom Central? I babysit for my granddaughters, serve on our HOA board and work with Newborns in Need to provide items for preemies and babies with health issues at Presbyterian Hospital. I have also started knitting hats and scarves for Classroom to distribute too.
Name: Bob Caruso
Length of time as a volunteer: About 3 years.
Why you volunteer at Classroom Central: I love the mission of Classroom Central; it resonates very well with me and my values! The notion that we are helping students to succeed and flourish in our society is a driving force. I am also a big fan of the Classroom Central staff and the outstanding way in which volunteer activities are organized.
What school supply excites you the most to see come through the doors? The pens, pencils, books, and notebooks are always satisfying because they are so basic to a student’s success in class. However, I love those special bonus items that are offered each time.
What do you do when you are not volunteering at Classroom Central? Volunteering at other organizations in Charlotte, enjoying cultural life in the city (music, shows, art, food), traveling (domestic and international), and babysitting for our granddaughters.
