January 24, 2017 was no ordinary Tuesday for Classroom Central. This was an incredible day where a major milestone was met. Since its inception in 2002, Classroom Central has distributed $50,000,000 in free school supplies to students and teachers in need.
At about 3:15 p.m., Harding University High School teacher, Jessica Betts, did her teacher shopping like any other day, except she was the teacher who pushed Classroom Central over the $50,000,000 milestone. All of a sudden, music turned on, balloons fell from the ceiling, donors cheered and everyone celebrated this collective accomplishment.
Executive Director Karen Calder stated, “We are thrilled to hit this major milestone of distributing $50,000,000 of free school supplies to students in need in the greater Charlotte community. Not only does it mean that students are more prepared for their academic work, it boosts the morale of teachers to know their community cares.”
The shopper who tipped the $50,000,000 in supplies mark and all other teachers in the store were awarded with a number of prizes. These prizes included a Thirty One bag stuffed with goods, Belk gift cards, Charlotte Checkers tickets, TCBY gift cards, Blackfinn goods, Carolina Chocolate Truffles, and SAS cupcakes. Classroom Central is very thankful for all of our donors and sponsors for making this milestone possible.
