With only two weeks before teacher shopping, we are busy getting ready. In addition to working with our fabulous donors and groups collecting school supplies, we are preparing our building. Over 400 teachers visit us each week, not to mention around 100 volunteers. So, a bit of maintenance was needed to ensure that Classroom Central will be in great shape for our guests.
Every Thursday in the summer, tons of fun young professionals gather at The Epicentre for the biggest after-work party in Charlotte, complete with band and a lively crowd. As a part of our Clearing Out For Classroom Central effort in Uptown last week, we were invited to attend the event and mingle with the group for our cause. Thank goodness the rain stopped so that we could be a part of it.
Last Thursday and Friday, Classroom Central took over the Disk Plaza at Trade & Tryon Street in Uptown Charlotte with a CMS bus, an enthusiastic staff of volunteers, and a simple message: Bring us your surplus office supplies!!
Tonight, when you look at the Duke Energy Tower, notice that it is lit up like a pencil in support of Classroom Central.
Our Executive Director, Jill, spoke at the Church of the Brethren National Convention held in Uptown Charlotte last week. After her presentation, the group surprised our team with a collection they had organized to support the region. The organization had hand picked Classroom Central as their focal charity from a number of other worthy nonprofits, so we were honored and completely floored by their generosity. But what is most amazing is the fact that conference attendees had packed filled their luggage from our school supply wish list. So, the supplies traveled from all over the USA!
